Five people died from crashes in Iowa -- including a double fatal car collision in Linn County -- during the July 4 holiday period.

A Marion man has pleaded not guilty to bludgeoning to death four people with a metal pipe two weeks ago. He also plans to demand a speedy trial at his arraignment set for next week.

A friend of one of the women killed last week near Marion says the woman and her boyfriend, also killed, had been evicted from their residence last year and had been living in the outbuilding where they were bludgeoned with a metal pipe. She didn’t know of any connection they had with the accused killer.

The suspect in quadruple murder is due now back in court to face upgraded charges.

A seed truck crashed Wednesday morning in Linn County, blocking traffic on Highway 13 for about two hours.

For the first time in 40 years, the Linn County Jail is not housing federal inmates for the U.S. Marshals Service.
