About The Gazette

The Gazette has been locally owned for more than 130 years. Little caption information available in this July 1960 photo, showing The Gazette building, constructed in 1925, at 500 Third Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.
The Gazette, a print and digital daily newspaper located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa serves the Eastern Iowa cities of Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and beyond with local news coverage. In print since 1883, The Gazette is unique as a 100% Employee-Owned media company.
We work hard every day to be responsive to our community in our pursuit of fair, accurate reporting. We’re your neighbors, and we’ve been doing this work for more than 130 years. The Gazette is fully independent and 100 percent employee owned.
But we know in this era of misinformation and “alternative facts,” it can be hard to know who to trust. A 2016 Gallup poll showed only 32 percent of Americans had “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of trust in the news media. As a local news source, we want to work with our audience to build trust in our newsroom, respond to concerns and increase news literacy among Iowans.
Along the way, we at The Gazette want to hear from you about how we’re doing.
