The college postseason continues with the NCAA Division II and III Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday. The D-III tournament includes the American Rivers Conference programs and Cornell, which is hosted by Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. Upper Iowa is the lone D-II program in the state and will compete at Indianapolis, Ind.

Coe posted a 2-0 dual record and entered the holiday break with a successful showing at the North Central Open. The Kohawks are in the midst of a training phase to prepare for the second half of the season, which begins with the NWCA Multi-Divisional Duals on Jan. 10-11 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Coe College senior football running back Trenton Barnes is from Madison, Ind., in the very southern part of the state. He answered a recruiting e-mail from Coe head coach Tyler Staker his senior year of high school and ended up coming to Cedar Rapids for college. He became the American Rivers Conference’s leading rusher this season.

The Coe College football team had one more chance Saturday to impress the committee that will select the NCAA Division III football playoff field. It did so, pasting Simpson, 47-10, in its regular-season finale at Clark Field. The Kohawks have an upcoming bye and will have to wait a week to see if they’re in the field of 40.
