Buena Vista’s baseball team beat Coe three times last weekend to win the American Rivers Conference regular-season championship. The Beavers made it a four-game win streak against the Kohawks via a 3-0 victory Friday afternoon at the ARC tournament at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Starting pitcher Mark Eddie threw a complete-game four-hitter.
The American Rivers Conference baseball tournament has been held at Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids since 2004. The plan is to keep it here but use Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo for seasons a scheduling conflict occurs with the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
Coe is the defending American Rivers Confernce baseball tournament champions. The Kohawks are the No. 2 seed in what promises to be a highly competitive tournament this season.

Esteban Perez gives every ounce of effort whenever he takes the field. He has made a big impact as an everyday catcher for the Rams, leading them with his hustle, toughness and durability. He reached bases in all six plate appearances, scored four runs and drove in another in Cornell’s 19-8 route of rival Coe.
Coe’s Ryan Thoreson used to over think his approach at the plate. He has kept things simple and ranks among the Kohawks’ top hitters this season.
Cornell’s Elise Oleson doesn’t mind the pressure when she has the chance to help her team win. She connected on a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-1 victory over Coe in the opener of a softball doubleheader at home. Kohawks rebounded for a 5-4 win in the nightcap.

Coe’s Bryce Parke posted three straight victories to reach the 133-pound final at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Saturday in Providence, R.I. He earned a runner-up finish and was one of four Kohawk All-Americans this year, including his brother, Brayden, who placed fifth at 125.
The college postseason continues with the NCAA Division II and III Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday. The D-III tournament includes the American Rivers Conference programs and Cornell, which is hosted by Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. Upper Iowa is the lone D-II program in the state and will compete at Indianapolis, Ind.
