A Linn County sheriff’s deputy responding to an alarm late Sunday night at a Coggon convenience store was shot several times and seriously wounded by an intruder who fled, authorities said.

Mason Chance Edwards, 23, confronted the victim on June 9 at a residence in the Western Hills Mobile Estates in Coralville over a previous incident, police said.

Alexander Ken Jackson, 20, has been arrested and faces three counts of first-degree murder, a public safety spokesman said. The spokesman identified the three murder victims as Jan Perry Jackson, 61; Melissa Ferne Jackson, 68; and Sabrina Hana Jackson, 19.

Montel Reed was taken to the Linn County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, going armed with intent, intimidation with a weapon, willful injury causing bodily injury and felon in possession of a firearm.
