There is a “high” risk of severe storms over a portion of southeast Iowa, including Johnson County and a portion of Linn County Friday afternoon and evening. The first wave of severe weather will start around noon, and the second round is projected to hit Eastern Iowa starting at 3 p.m.

Extreme weather is expected to batter Eastern Iowa between 4 and 6 p.m.

Almost every location between Burlington and Dubuque along the Mississippi has a 1 in 2 chance of major flooding, according to latest NWS spring flood outlook.

Parts of Eastern Iowa were under a tornado warning Monday afternoon after a tornado was confirmed to have touched down near Williamsburg.

The long-duration winter storm expected to begin in Eastern Iowa late this afternoon will pack a cruel long-lasting punch.

The National Weather Service placed the Corridor on a winter storm warning between 6 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Saturday in advance of a major winter storm bringing high winds and, with them, a bitter wind chill of some 30 to 40 degrees below zero.

“Not all derechos are created equal,” said Rich Kinney, a warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Quad Cities bureau.

Cindy Axne are asking the National Weather Service to explain a communications system malfunction that led to delay in critical alerts to the public March 5 when storms caused seven deaths in Iowa. Some warnings didn’t reach the public until nine minutes after they were issued.

The risk of spring flooding on the Mississippi River, as well as its tributaries, including the Cedar and Iowa rivers, is below normal, the National Weather Service reported Thursday.
