Eighteen months after opening in Cedar Rapids, the Linn County Mental Health Access Center is seeing an increase in need for its services. Leaders hope to expand the hours of the center to 24/7 and they’re discussing a Youth Assessment Center.

Think Iowa City awarded the first two grants earlier this month as part of the Iowa City Tourism Grant program. Also, the Cedar Rapids City Council approved a shelter rezoning, and major projects are underway for local flood control and a Mount Vernon schools activities complex.

The Bertram Bridge, also known as the Blue Bridge on Bertram Road near the nature Center, was built in 1876.

Applicants have until Dec. 9 to apply on the county’s website

Former Linn County Supervisor and current county employee Brent Oleson will be the next Linn County treasurer.

District 2 incumbent Ben Rogers was elected for a fifth term to the three-member Linn County Board of Supervisors. State Rep. Kirsten Running-Marquardt will fill the other open seat.

Democrat Brent Oleson faces Republican Paul Talley for the open seat.

The board voted 2-1 to oppose the amendment, which is on next week’s ballot. They join the Cedar Rapids Community School District and Johnson County Supervisors in passing a resolution encouraging Iowans to vote “no.“

The Cedar Rapids City Council on Tuesday advanced a rezoning request to make way for Linn County’s overflow shelter to serve the homeless population this winter.

Two candidates are vying for an open seat on the three-member Linn County Board of Supervisors to represent District 1 — southern Linn County, including western Cedar Rapids, Ely and Fairfax.

Attorneys for the Linn County Board of Supervisors, Coggon Solar LLC and a family that’s suing them met in court on Thursday to argue the case before a judge.
