Linn County League of Women Voters to host speaker on property tax reform
Republican lawmakers this sessions are eyeing property tax cuts

Feb. 2, 2023 3:00 pm
The Linn County League of Women Voters will host a speaker Saturday morning to discuss property taxes in the state.
While a specific legislative proposal has not yet surfaced, Republican lawmakers have said they plan to use their majorities in the Iowa Legislature to pass measures that will, in their view, help reduce Iowans’ property taxes.
“This is a great time to reinforce the direct connection between taxes paid and important services provided by local government,” according to a post on the Linn County’ league’s Facebook page. “Our current Iowa Legislature is committed to Property Tax Reform, and it's critical for Iowans to understand what questions to ask about new legislation.”

The virtual event will feature Linn County Finance Director Dawn Jindrich, “who will provide an educational session on how taxes are levied, who pays them, and how they are used,” according to the league’s Facebook post.
“While we all appreciate lower individual taxes, we have to be responsible,” according to the post. “A practical balance is essential — so that cities and counties can deliver the services that Iowa residents need and expect.”
All monthly league programs are open to the public.
