The Hot Cider Hustle Half Marathon and 5K is returning to Cedar Rapids in a few weeks and local nonprofit Families Helping Families – which is organizing volunteers for the race – still needs dozens of volunteers.

The original single-story structure, which was remodeled as part of the expansion, was 8,543 square feet, Weeks said. Now the library is two-stories and nearly triple the size at 22,000 square feet.

Investigators searching for 10-year-old Xavior Harrelson, who vanished in May days before his 11th birthday, said Thursday they have found human remains matching his description in a nearby cornfield.

Sumani Husseini Muya, 23, allegedly fired a semiautomatic handgun at another man Monday afternoon at Redmond Park. Muya was arrested following a short foot pursuit.

Police said officers were called just after 9 p.m. to the 1700 block of C Avenue NE for reports of gunfire. When they arrived, officers encountered a man – later identified as Handley – running from the 1700-block alleyway between C and D avenues.

The 7,200-square-foot building houses a new gym and physical training facility, a classroom and a garage that houses the department’s seven police cruisers, an operations trailer, some city vehicles and some other equipment.

The Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer will be held Oct. 3. The race raises funds to provide breast and gynecological cancer screening and diagnostic services to underinsured, uninsured and financially disadvantaged people.
