Homes and businesses of the Little Mexico neighborhood in Cedar Rapids were razed in the 1960s to build I-380 in Cedar Rapids. Dozens of immigrant families were displaced. The notion of erasing a non-white neighborhood to make way for progress is now seen through a different lens.
Horizons, A Family Service Alliance will provide gifts to homebound older adults in its Linn County Meals on Wheels program. The agency is requesting monetary donations so it may purchase gifts to also deliver to clients the week of Christmas.

Two handbell ensembles, Carillonneurs and Tower Bells, will present a Christmas concert Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Gathering Space at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. The concert is free and open to the public.
The public is invited to skate at Xtream Arena for one night only, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Those who bring an item to donate will receive free skate rentals.
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Marion will host “The Living Story,” a free drive-thru live Nativity, this Thursday through Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. It will feature multiple scenes and more than 100 volunteers from the St. Mark’s congregation.
Together We Achieve’s next drive through food box giveaway event is scheduled for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hawkeye Downs. This is a first-come, first-served event and no registration is required.
Because of limited remaining funds, only new applicants will be accepted for the Linn County Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). Households who have already received assistance from this program will no longer be eligible.
Experience the living Nativity at Noelridge Christian Church, 7111 C Ave. NE in Cedar Rapids, this Wednesday. This Nativity with live animals, carols and soup supper will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The market will be held in the Recreation Center’s first-floor gymnasium and second-floor Social Hall. Farmers Market vendors and artists will have homemade, handcrafted, seasonal gifts, and food available for purchase
100 percent of the proceeds benefit the Iowa City Public Library, and the online bazaar is open through then end of December.

Veterans, active military and their family are invited to the annual Veterans Holiday Meal in the Coliseum of the Veterans Memorial Building, 50 Second Ave. Bridge, Cedar Rapids. Serving begins at 4:30 p.m.
