Future Ready Iowa’s Summer Youth Internship Project provided $1.61 million in grants last year to 26 companies or organizations providing high school internships. These internships included landscaping, custom meat processing, nursing, utility management and engineering, among other disciplines. Another round of funding is available now, with applications due March 2.

Kirkwood Community College is hosting a screening of “13th,” a 2016 documentary about the history of racial inequality in the U.S., on Feb. 23 at Paramount Theatre. There will be a Q&A session with Kevin Gannon, a Des Moines history professor who contributed to the film.

Area artists are invited to help create a mural on the Five Seasons Parking Ramp that’s intended to celebrate Cedar Rapids’ diverse community and highlight themes of social and racial justice. Artists are encouraged to submit qualifications by April 6 before a final candidate will be selected for mural installation.
