CEDAR RAPIDS — The Granny Basketball League and its members are getting ready to lace up and take the court for an 18th year of six-on-six basketball.
League action will begin with the 15th annual Granny Basketball Jamboree, to be held at Trinity Lutheran School, 1371 Seventh Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting to approximately 3 p.m. Teams within the league’s footprint will meet to compete with one another, their court style blending itself with the play and rules of yesteryear. A colorful adaptation of uniforms from the 1920s adds the final touch to this game.
This event is open to the public, with admission a freewill donation to the Meals on Wheels program administered by Horizons, A Family Service Alliance, and delivering hot, nutritious meals to homebound older adults in Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area. Please note that because participants are at an increased risk for COVID-19, all attendees are asked to wear a face mask.
