The U.S. House is poised to vote to establish a right to contraception nationwide. Republicans Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks instead have introduced a bill to access birth control pills over the counter.
Hinson did not directly say if she supports prosecuting other individuals who assist a person who is receiving an abortion, but her staff says she opposes it.

Both of Iowa’s Republican U.S. Senators say abortion regulations should be decided by individual states
The day the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade – upending nearly 50 years of precedent by finding no constitutional right to an abortion exists – University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson emailed the UI community asking that the campus remains “a place for open and respectful discussion of differences.”
After one temporary legal setback, Reynolds said the legal challenges remain her preferred strategy for enacting new abortion restrictions in Iowa.
The Biden administration on Monday told hospitals that they “must” provide abortion services if the life of the mother is at risk, saying federal law on emergency treatment guidelines preempts state laws in jurisdictions that now ban the procedure without any exceptions.
Liz Mathis, a Democrat challenging GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson for her seat in the U.S. House, recently posted a tweet about Hinson’s support for a “personhood” bill introduced last year.
The rally was organized by a broad coalition of Iowa-based civil rights and reproductive rights organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Iowa and the Great Plains Action Society.
