Iowa high school boys’ state basketball 2023: Brackets, predictions, top players and more.

There was a bit of an upheaval at the top in Class 2A this week in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s official boys’ basketball rankings. Western Christian moved up from to the top spot after losses by previous No. 1 Central Lyon and No. 2 Aplington-Parkersburg. Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Bondurant-Farrar and Grand View Christian remained atop their respective classes.

Second-ranked Western Christian rallied from fifth-set deficits of 13-9 and 14-11 and knocked off No. 1 Dike-New Hartford in a Class 2A title-match thriller, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 13-25, 16-14, at the state volleyball tournament Thursday afternoon at Xtream Arena.

Western Christian was business-like in dismantling Eddyville EBF, 25-16, 25-21, 25-11 in a Class 2A state volleyball semifinal Wednesday at Xtream Arena. The Wolfpack will get another crack at Dike-New Hartford, which has won the last two 2A crowns.

No. 2 Western Christian came into Tuesday's Class 2A quarterfinal match with No. 8 Sumner-Fredericksburg as a prohibitive favorite. The Wolfpack left the court following the match victorious, but not without some anxious moments.

North Linn’s football team lost starting quarterback Tate Haughenbury to mononucleosis at the end of the regular season. But the Lynx still have won two playoff games, including 28-14, Friday night over Mason City Newman. North Linn is in the quarterfinals for the second time in school history.
