Two meth leaders were each sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for their roles in bringing 500 pounds of the drug to Iowa.

Two Cedar Rapids police officers testified Thursday about being forced to shoot Brandon Nelson, who had led officers on a high-speed chase, and then pointed a shotgun at them when he stopped and got out of his vehicle.

A Cedar Rapids police officer said Brandon Nelson, on trial this week for attempted murder and 12 other charges, came at him head-on during a high speed chase last year. Two officers will testify this week that Nelson also racked and pointed a shotgun at them when he finally stopped.

David Alan Huston, 54, charged with assault and accused of driving his pickup truck into abortion protesters last year, was acquitted by a Linn County jury Thursday.

A protester who was bracing against a pickup truck during a rally last year said it continued to drive forward at her and others in the crosswalk. She thought the driver was “willing to kill her.”

A 22-year-old woman, who was protesting with others the court’s ruling overturning abortion rights, said she didn’t think a pickup truck that came toward her and others in the crosswalk was going to hit her but it did.
