Drake Ayala jumped into Iowa wrestling lineup last week and is expected to face his third straight top-10 ranked foe when the top-ranked Hawkeyes face Northwestern on Friday.

Freshman Drake Ayala removed his redshirt Friday. In just his second official bout as a Hawkeye, he scored two takedowns to beat Purdue’s fifth-ranked Devin Schroder, 6-1, Sunday.

Former Lisbon prep Cobe Siebrecht posted a first-period technical fall in his dual debut for top-ranked Iowa. The Hawkeyes won seven matches and dropped No. 21 Princeton, 32-12.

Abe Assad did not compete last season. He was hampered by injury and Nelson Brands was the full-time starter. Assad is listed at 184 for the Hawkeyes’ opener against Princeton Friday. It would be his first home dual since Jan. 31, 2020.

Iowa heavyweight Tony Cassioppi and Myles Wilson will compete in the U23 World Championships Nov. 1-7 at Belgrade, Serbia. Cassioppi continues to transform his frame into a more sculpted and leaner look.
