Moment No. 8: In a 22-day period, Iowa women’s basketball won two Big Ten championships and had three sellouts at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Moment No. 9: After Judith Davidson helped Iowa field hockey win a national title in the 1980s, Beth Beglin made the Hawkeyes a consistent Final Four team in the 1990s.

Moment No. 10: Iowa became the first Power Five program to add a women’s wrestling team in 2021 as a result of the settlement to a Title IX lawsuit.

Moment No. 11: Lisa Bluder became the 14th Division I women’s basketball coach to win 800 career games in 2021.

Moment No. 12: Iowa women’s athletics director Christine Grant was the president of the AIAW from 1980-81, leading a group with more members at the time than the NCAA. But Grant had a difficult fight to keep the association alive.

Moment No. 13: Iowa softball punched its ticket to a third straight Women’s College World Series appearance in 1997.

Moment No. 14: Iowa women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark became the first athlete to lead the nation in points and assists in the same season and the first to win the Dawn Staley Point Guard of the Year Award in consecutive seasons.

Moment No. 15: C. Vivian Stringer led Iowa women’s basketball to its first Elite Eight appearance in 1987 and its first No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press Poll in 1988.

Moment No. 16: Iowa soccer overcame its worst seven-match start to a season ever to make much better history in the postseason — its first Big Ten tournament title and NCAA tournament win.

Moment No. 17: After getting a tough draw in the NCAA Regionals, Gayle Blevins remembers “no one expected us to win a game.” But the now-retired softball coach led the Hawkeyes that year to their first Women’s College World Series in program history.

Moment No. 18: Carver-Hawkeye Arena opened in 1983 with more space for women than many peer facilities. It was also a significant upgrade from the offices in Halsey Gym, which now is called Halsey Hall.

Moment No. 19: Iowa broke the record for highest two-day attendance in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament with 23,096 fans in 2019.

Moment No. 20: With “a lot of really positive things brewing,” Iowa filed hockey returned to the Final Four in 2008.

Moment No. 21: Iowa women’s tennis surprised everyone from security guards to coaches with a pair of upsets to earn its first and only NCAA Round of 16 spot in program history.

Moment No. 22: For the first time in program history, Iowa field hockey rose to No. 1 in the country. That led to a memorable showdown between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams a few weeks later with Lisa Bluder and others rushing the field at the end.
