A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Wednesday on charges that he stole extension cords and related items from holiday displays around Cedar Rapids, according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Multiple extension cords have been stolen in the last couple weeks from Christmas light displays in downtown Cedar Rapids and in the MedQuarter, according to Nikki Wilcox, the director of strategic developmet for the Cedar Rapids Economic Alliance.

An Iowa City man was sentenced to 35 years in prison for a several burglaries and thefts at local businesses. Police say he was selling the stolen items to support himself. The stolen items totaled over $100,000.

A local developer is accused of stealing home improvement materials from Menards in Marion. The incident was captured on the store’s surveillance video.
