Bill to permit warrantless search of abandoned garbage goes to governor

Iowa Republican U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley said he will keep an open mind on President Joe Biden’s U.S. Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, on Wednesday said he is urging a fair confirmation process to vet President Joe Biden's eventual nominee to succeed retiring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

On the U.S. Supreme Court for over 27 years, liberal Justice Stephen Breyer is retiring, numerous sources said Wednesday, giving Democratic President Joe Biden his first high court opening, which he has pledged to fill with the historic naming of the court's first Black woman.

Both now will be considered Jan. 7, the Friday before the court was to resume its normal schedule of oral arguments. It is highly unusual for the justices to schedule such hearings on emergency requests.
