A judge this week ordered Iowa parents, who were convicted of helping their son flee to Jordan to escape prosecution for attempted murder and other charges last year, to forfeit more than $11,000 in their bank account because it was used in the crime.

Ali Younes, 21, who fled the country to avoid prosecution for attempted murder and robbery of a woman in 2022, was extradited from Chicago over the weekend after self-surrendering last week. He was charged with an additional charge of escape from custody on Tuesday in Johnson County District Court.

The chief state medical examiner on Friday testified the single bullet that killed 17-year-old Cristian Upah during a marijuana robbery last May did extensive damage to his diaphragm muscle, intestines and lower right back muscle. The gunshot caused “significant” blood loss and collapsed his left lung.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department is asking for help finding a suspect in an armed bank robbery earlier this month.

A federal judge sentenced a Cedar Rapids man to more than 55 years in prison for his 12-day crime spree, which included robbing seven businesses in November 2020. He had seven previous felony convictions.
