Hawkeye Athletics confirms no football coaches took pandemic pay cuts

With the full 2021 budget year now wrapped, University of Iowa Athletics has confirmed no contracted football coaches – including head coach Kirk Ferentz – participated in voluntary salary reductions announced a year ago in light of COVID-19 losses the department projected to be devastating and justifying of its decision to eliminate several Hawkeye sports and take a $50 million loan from the main campus.

We strive to understand national and international events through a lens for Iowa impact.
  • There are more stories happening in eastern Iowa than we have the resources to cover. This leads to some pretty hard decisions. Things like staff schedules, event timing and expected outcomes at the events can also be factors in the decisions.
