IOWA CITY — Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague on Thursday announced he will seek re-election to the Iowa City Council.
Teague was elected to an at-large council seat in a 2018 special election, and his fellow council members elected him mayor in 2020.
“I hope the people of Iowa City have seen how hard I have worked to listen to all voices and will give me the opportunity to continue serving them as we move past this difficult time into a period of growth, healing and betterment for our future,” Teague said in a statement.
Teague, an Iowa City resident since 1993, is the owner and CEO of Caring Hands & More, a home health care company in Iowa City.
Teague is one of three council members whose terms expire this year.
Council member Susan Mims, who represents District B, has announced her intent to retire at the end of her term.
Mayor Pro-tem Mazahir Salih’s at-large term also concludes at the end of the year.
Megan Alter, a manager at ACT, and Human Rights Commissioner Jason Glass have announced plans to run for seats on the council.
City and school board elections will be held Nov. 2.
