Mason Waterbury pitched six strong innings in an 8-5 Iowa City Liberty win, raising his record to 7-0. Another southpaw took center stage in the nightcap. Linn-Mar senior Caleb Mossman threw five innings as the Lions secured a split with a 10-3 victory.

Avery and Bennett Link continued a Cedar Rapids Xavier tennis tradition on Tuesday, capturing the Class 1A coed doubles state title, downing Kate Holton and Parker Stroh of Waterloo Columbus 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) in the title match.

After splitting the six singles matches, Dubuque Wahlert got a pair of straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to down Cedar Rapids Xavier, 5-3, in the Class 1A boys’ state tennis final. The Saints had claimed the last five championships.

Pella's Emily Blom and Claire Smock rallied from losing the first set to win the second set over Xavier's Izzy Tobin and Ruby Smith in a tiebreaker, then win the third set super tiebreaker, 10-5. The win gave the Dutch a 5-4 victory over the Saints in the Class 1A girls’ state tennis title match at Byrnes Park in Waterloo.

As the Iowa high school boys’ tennis season concludes with the state team tournaments, a number of interesting storylines could play out.

Cedar Rapids Washington, Iowa City West and Cedar Rapids Xavier are among the teams competing in this week’s Iowa high school girls’ tennis state team tournament. The Warriors have to make a lineup change in 2A while the Saints are the top seed in 1A.

After a tough first set, Gabi Fleming showed why she has been the state's top-ranked player all season in the second set, finishing off a 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 win over Waterloo Columbus sophomore Kate Holton to win the Class 1A state singles title.

In a season where she dominated her foes from start to finish, Cedar Rapids Washington senior Katelynn Kock remained humble to the end. Kock claimed the Class 2A state singles title Saturday.
