Decorah’s Huinker sisters win 11 games in a row to win 6-4, 6-0 at the Class 1A state tennis tournament.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Lily Holland, is a three-time state place winner. She finished fifth as a freshman, second as a sophomore and took fourth last spring.

Emotions of a different kind came out for the junior moments after the Saints rolled past Pella Christian, 5-0, in a Class 1A regional final that took all of 40 minutes to complete on Saturday morning at Xavier.

This time, it is boys’ tennis that will see change. Beginning this spring, only the top 32 teams in each class will qualify for postseason team play and doubles matches will be contested first with singles to follow.

For the second time in five months, the Saints will be sending their entire team to the Class 1A state singles and doubles tournament after sweeping the titles and runner-up slots at the rain-delayed regional tournament at Grinnell on Thursday.

With the fall season debut, all three ranked programs will host every step of the regional bracket on their road to the Oct. 6-7 state tournament.
