They spent their summer days, winter mornings and spring evenings working on their golf games and the Solon Spartans have parlayed it into another successful golf season.

State-qualifying track and field meets are Thursday, with 24 advancing in each event to next week’s state meet in Des Moines. Here are eight area teams that bear close watch.

Paul Rundquist learned a lot of basketball and life lessons from his father, Gordon, who died in the fall. This season has been more difficult than usual for Paul, but he has Iowa City Regina with a 10-1 record after a win at Mid-Prairie

Mid-Prairie hants it hat on defense, which helped it make the state field for the first time in 20 seasons. Chalk one up for the offense of the Mustangs, but it certainly did not come easily.
