Clear Creek Amana earned a 25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-6 upset over second-ranked North Scott in a Class 4A state semifinal match Wednesday at Xtream Arena. No. 8 CCA advances to its first final, taking on No. 1 Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Third-ranked Pleasant Valley made quick work of No. 10 West Des Moines Valley, posting a 25-15, 25-21, 25-20 sweep in the Class 5A state volleyball semifinals Monday at Xtream Arena. Pleasant Valley won its first state crown last season and will have a shot at a repeat.

Girls filed into wrestling rooms across Iowa on Monday for the start of the varsity season. They have done that decades, however, this was the start of their own season. This is uncharted territory for the IGHSAU’s celebrated “Iowa Girl.”
