Real Woods moved one step closer to a national title dream after a runner-up finish to Northern Colorado’s Andrew Alirez at 141 pounds at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Saturday at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Iowa’s Real Woods, Iowa State’s David Carr, Northern Iowa’s Parker Keckeisen and South Dakota State’s Tanner Sloan, a former Alburnett prep, finished second in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

Spencer Lee medically forfeited his final two bouts to place sixth at 125 pounds in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Saturday at BOK Center. He joined coaches and teammates and sat on the event level to watch and support heavyweight Tony Cassioppi in his third-place bout.

Iowa State’s David Carr defeated Stanford’s Shane Griffith, 2-1, in a battle of former national champions in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Friday at BOK Center. He claimed his third All-America honor and returned to the semifinals after a year hiatus.

Spencer Lee’s dominance highlighted second-ranked Iowa’s opening day at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, moving five into the quarterfinals with all 10 left in the tournament. Iowa State’s David Carr and Marcus Coleman advanced. UNI’s Parker Keckeisen moved into the quarterfinals.

The Iowa Hawkeyes enjoyed more ups than downs during the first session of NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Iowa won eight of 10 bouts and was in third place entering the second session Thursday night.

Cael Happel’s first postseason victory highlighted the Panthers’ perfect first session at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Thursday. UNI went 7-0 and held an early tie for fourth in the team standings.
