Iowa state softball 2019: Friday's 3A, 4A, 5A championship scores

The final day of the 2019 Iowa high school state softball tournament featured three championship games at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.

CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 1 Davenport Assumption 7, No. 2 Louisa-Muscatine 4

Anna Wohlers and Lauren Loken each drove in two runs and Assumption clinched its third straight state softball title, beating last year's 2A champion in the final.

The Knights scored in each of the first three innings, including Loken's two-run homer in the third, to go up 7-0. L-M rallied with four in the fourth to get back in the game, but Wohlers tagged out Mallory Hohenadel at the plate to end the threat.

Iowa commit Allie Timmons got the win, scattering eight hits over seven innings and striking out two.

Assumption leadoff hitter Lea Nelson was named all-tournament captain. She was 2-for-2 and scored twice.

Brynn Jeambey drove in two for the Falcons. 

CLASS 4A CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 1 Carlisle 1, No. 3 North Scott 0

Delaney Schnathorst and Alyvia Dubois hit back-to-back two-out singles in the bottom of the third to lift top-ranked Carlisle to the 4A state title.

North Scott nearly tied it in the sixth, but Sam Lee was tagged out on a play at the plate while trying to score from second on a wild pitch.

Molly Hoekstra allowed five hits, two walks and no runs in 5 2/3 innings for the win and Lexxi Link got the save with 1 1/3 hitless innings of relief.

CLASS 5A CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 8 West Des Moines Valley 8, No. 1 Waukee 5

Valley pounded out 16 hits and scored eight runs to knock off the top-ranked Warriors in the final game of the day.

The Tigers tied the score at 4-4 on a fielder's choice and error in the top of the fourth, then took their first and decisive lead in the fifth on Hailey Etzel's two-RBI single. Maggie House added insurance with an RBI single in the seventh and later scored on a wild pitch.

Etzel finished with four RBIs. Alex Honnold was 2-for-3 and scored twice. Gianna Lara was 4-for-4 and hit a solo home run in the second.

Delaney Taylor was 2-for-4 and scored two runs for the Warriors. Heidi Wheeler and Reagan Bartholomew both drove in two.
