The five-week pre-apprenticeship program creates a pathway for Iowans to qualify for and complete a skilled trades apprenticeship. Iowa City is investing more than $400,000 in pandemic relief dollars, which will allow the Labor Center to run the program for the next four years.
Currently, sidewalk cafes are allowed downtown and in the Riverfront Crossings district. The council voted in favor of allowing sidewalk cafes without a liquor license outside of these areas to operate.
The council decided on Tuesday to have applications due Jan. 3 with the selection made at the Jan. 10 council meeting. Iowa City residents can petition for a special election.
