Iowa City voters will elect three council members in November: two at-large seats and a representative of District B, which includes the east side of Iowa City.

Iowa City will nearly double the amount of money it provides to area nonprofits after the city council voted Tuesday to increase funding in the city’s Aid to Agencies fund by $350,000, to nearly $1.1 million.

The Iowa City Council gave its approval Tuesday on the first reading of the rezoning of 5.49 acres on the north side of Iowa City to allow for development of an 84-unit apartment complex.

The proposal for development of the lot at 21 S. Linn St., which is estimated to cost about $40 million, calls for a six-story building to offer retail, entertainment and residential space.

The site has been controversial due to a proposed apartment complex.
