Not only will Benton Community sophomore Halle Sobaski return to the Class 3A state golf meet, but her Bobcat teammates will be playing alongside her. Sobaski was runner-up medalist and the Bobcats placed second in the regional at Manchester’s Pin Oak Golf Club Wednesday, advancing to state.

Linn-Mar’s Morgan Rupp fired 1-under 71 to claim medalist honors at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet on Monday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. Host Cedar Falls won a tiebreaker over Cedar Rapids Washington and Cedar Rapids Xavier for the team title.

Cedar Rapids Xavier’s boys’ basketball team did enough offensively and defensively in the final couple minutes to beat Dubuque Wahlert, 56-51, in a Class 3A substate semifinal Thursday night. Zander Murray had a game-high 20 points, 16 in the second half.

Linn-Mar’s Malik DeBow has made a habit of wrestling his best late in the season. He rolled to his third Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet title and helped the Lions claim their third MVC tournament team title in the last four seasons.

The Lynx are back in this week for the first time this season at No. 10. All of the No. 1s remain the same in Cedar Falls, Huxley Ballard, Western Christian and Bellevue Marquette.
For the first time since 1977, there are no Gazette-area teams in the Iowa high school state football championships. But the Prep Football Huddle is making picks for all seven of this week’s games anyway.
