The event will be held on June 11 at 10 a.m. Paddlers will start the race at Sturgis Ferry Park in Iowa City and will cross the finish line nine miles downriver at the Hills Campground in Hills.

The nature activities and book drive on Saturday — which is also independent bookstore day — will take place at Sidekick Coffee & Books, 1310 1/2 Melrose Ave. The event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Jackson County Conservation will host three OWLS (Older, Wiser, Livelier) events starting with a Skunk Cabbage Hike this Friday. Events also are scheduled for April 2 and April 7. Registration is required at least 48 hours in advance of each event.

OWLS (Older Wiser Livelier) is hosting a snowshoe event Feb. 3 at White Water Canyon, the group’s first outing of the year. Registration for the free hike is required by Friday so enough snowshoes are available.
