Amid confusion over Trump funding freeze, Hinson pledges to prevent ‘woke spending sprees’

Iowa Republican U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson of Marion praised passage of a House GOP-led bill that would bar transgender athletes from participating in women’s and girls’ sports at schools and institutions receiving federal funds as a victory for protecting the “integrity of girls’ sports.”

Iowa leaders praised former President Jimmy Carter as a dedicated public servant and global humanitarian who used the Iowa caucuses in 1976 to propel the little-known peanut farmer turned Georgia governor to the White House — putting both him and Iowa in the national spotlight.

During a conference call with reporters Thursday morning, Hinson, a Republican from Marion, advocated for passing “a clean CR,” addressing the debt ceiling, providing disaster relief and extending the farm bill to “give our farmers most needed aid.”

As Democrats seek to make the right to contraception an election issue amid a growing partisan clash over reproductive rights, Iowa Republicans U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson and U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst are focusing attention on their efforts to increase birth control options for women in rural Iowa.

In other campaign news, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday endorsed Iowa’s Ashley Hinson.

Hinson, who sits on the House Appropriations Committee, said her top priority is reducing inflation by slowing government growth and spending, reducing taxes and “regulatory burdens” on small businesses.
