Additional information released in fatal Cedar Rapids collision

CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids police have released additional details in a collision that killed a pedestrian last week.

Authorities said last week that officers were called to the 3200 block of Sixth Street SW at 11:40 p.m. March 13 where they found a man - identified as Lavell Robinson, Jr., 29, of Coralville - dead in the road.

Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said Tuesday that several witnesses saw Robinson walking on the shoulder of the road and he 'appeared to have stumbled on the ground.” The witnesses turned their vehicle around to check on Robinson and were passed by a gray or silver Chevrolet Silverado truck. Authorities believe the driver of the Silverado might have witnessed the fatal incident and police would like to speak with them.

Buelow said when witnesses returned to where Robinson had stumbled to the ground, he was lying in the road and appeared to have been hit by a vehicle.

While officers were investigating, a person driving a Jeep told officers they had hit Robinson while he was lying in the road. The driver - who has not been charged and whose identity has not been released - provided their information to police at the scene.

Buelow said the death remains an active investigation and investigators are waiting on autopsy and toxicology results.

No charges are pending, Buelow said.
