Shooting victim injured during robbery attempt

CEDAR RAPIDS — The victim in Thursday's shooting in southeast Cedar Rapids was shot during a robbery attempt, authorities said Friday.
Cedar Rapids police were called to a report of shots fired at 385 15th St. SE at 3:36 p.m. Thursday. There, officers found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.
Police learned the alleged shooter went back into the residence at 385 15th St. SE. The building was secured until more information was gathered about the suspect and the circumstances of the shooting. Police said the shooting victim went into the residence and was shot during a robbery attempt, according to police.
'Initial information is that someone was trying to rob the victim and he was shot in the process,' said Maria Johnson, Cedar Rapids communications manager. 'The details are still unclear and under investigation.'
Police released the scene of the shooting after officers determined there was no threat to the public or residents in the area.
The investigation is ongoing.
