Human remains have been found in the Maquoketa River near Canton in Eastern Iowa.
On July 3, people floating on the Maquoketa River spotted the remains south of Canton near 15th Avenue in Jones County, according to a release from the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
In the days that followed, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by other agencies, searched the river, where additional remains were located.
The remains have not been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
In the release, the sheriff’s office noted that Justin Douglas Chambers was reported missing Nov. 20, 2020. He was last known to be staying at the Wild Wood Campground along the Maquoketa River north of Canton.
Officials eventually ended the search for Chambers due to inclement weather and lack of information as to his location.
