Action from day 2 of the Iowa High School State Track & Field Championship at Drake Stadium Friday, May 23, 2025

They spent their summer days, winter mornings and spring evenings working on their golf games and the Solon Spartans have parlayed it into another successful golf season.

Individuals and teams have earned berths to the Iowa High School Athletic Association state golf tournaments May 27 and 28. The Class 3A meet will be at Cedar Falls, while 2A and 1A will be in Waterloo.

Marion extended its season with a runner-up finish at the Class 3A sectional meet Wednesday. The Wolves still have a chance for a second straight trip to the state golf meet.

Cascade’s Jackson Lieurance and Iowa City Regina’s Will Litton are Players of the Year in their respective divisions of the River Valley Conference, it has been announed. Cascade’s Nate McMullen and Regina’s Paul Rundquist are division Coaches of the Year.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Ella Brown has seen her title hopes end in the semifinal round in the past. This time the Cougars’ senior 235-pounder left no doubt to become the school’s first state finalist.

Mount Vernon Libby Dix reached the state finals the last two seasons, winning the 190-pound crown. She opened with two consecutive pins to maintain her chances for another state title.
