At least one of the tornadoes that tore across Iowa Friday afternoon has been classified as an EF 4, the second-highest rating available on the scale that’s used to measure the storms. The National Weather Service reports there were at least 11 injuries from the storms.
A powerful line of storms — including several possible tornadoes — swept across Iowa Friday, toppling trees, flipping cars and tearing roofs off homes.
There have been reports of damage in several Eastern Iowa counties as the storms cut their way northeast through the state.
There is a “high” risk of severe storms over a portion of southeast Iowa, including Johnson County and a portion of Linn County Friday afternoon and evening. The first wave of severe weather will start around noon, and the second round is projected to hit Eastern Iowa starting at 3 p.m.
Extreme weather is expected to batter Eastern Iowa between 4 and 6 p.m.
Spring is right on track in Iowa, with daffodils and tulips expected to bloom in early to mid-April with fruit trees flowering a few weeks later, said Patrick O’Malley, a Linn County-based commercial fruit and vegetable field specialist with Iowa State Extension.

The storm could dump as much as 8 inches of snow on Cedar Rapids into Thursday night.
