CEDAR RAPIDS — The Herbert Hoover Presidential Foundation is bringing history to life at the Cedar Rapids Public Library with the traveling exhibit “Hoover on the Road.”
This special showcase offers an interactive, family-friendly experience that highlights the life, legacy and enduring impact of America’s 31st president, Herbert Hoover.
The exhibit is sponsored by a grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation and will be open to the public in the Commons of the Downtown Library from Nov. 10 to Nov. 30 during regular library hours. Admission is free.
This free, family-friendly display shares the inspiring life and legacy of President Herbert Hoover — America’s only president born in Iowa — through hands-on elements, eye-catching visuals and engaging stories.
The exhibit will be accompanied by a presentation, “Keeping Up with the Hoovers: Dining, Diplomacy, and Entertainment at the White House” with speaker Presleigh-Anne Johnson, a PhD student and graduate teaching assistant at the University of Alabama. The event will be Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Downtown Library’s Whipple Auditorium, with a welcome reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by the presentation and audience Q&A from 6-7 p.m.

“We’re excited to share President Hoover’s remarkable story in the very communities where Iowans gather to learn and connect,” said Mundi McCarty, CEO of the Hoover Presidential Foundation. “Libraries are natural partners in keeping history accessible and relevant for today’s families.”
“Hosting this exhibit is a wonderful opportunity for our community,” said Cedar Rapids Public Library Director Dara Schmidt. “It gives families and students a chance to experience history in an engaging way, right here at their local library.”
The exhibit is part of the Hoover Presidential Foundation’s outreach leading up to the grand reopening of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch, Iowa, in 2026.
Community members are encouraged to stop by, explore the exhibit and discover how President Hoover’s story continues to inspire service and leadership today.
