Two lawsuits have been filed against the defunct Taboo nightclub and Timothy Rush for fatally shooting Marvin Cox and injuring another man.

Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks said Timothy Rush “recklessly” fired his gun into the crowd at Taboo last year as a reaction to Dimione Walker firing multiple fatal shots at Michael Valentine on April 10, 2022.

A Cedar Rapids man pleaded to lesser charges for fatally shooting his girlfriend and another man last April in the Taboo Nightclub and Lounge. He faced up to 100 years on murder charges if convicted, but now only faces up to 30 years in prison.

A prosecutor asked for delay in the March 28 trial for Timothy Rush, who is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend and another man and also seriously injuring others April 10 inside the Taboo Nightclub and Lounge. Two key witnesses to the prosecution’s can’t testify later this month.

Dimione Walker was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of first-degree murder in November.

The mother of Michael Valentine, fatally shot by Dimione Walker, said her son was trying to be a better man for his son but his “light” was dimmed too soon. She forgave his killer.

A Linn County jury took less than 90 minutes to convict Dimione Walker of first-degree murder in the April 10 fatal shooting of Michael Valentine inside the Taboo club in downtown Cedar Rapids. He reacted by smiling and almost laughing as the verdict was read.

The defense called police officers to the witness stand as it started its case in the Dimione Walker murder trial. Police officers testified that the Cedar Rapids man Walker is accused of killing at the Taboo club was a suspect in a 2016 gun incident in which Walker was injured.

An autopsy showed Tuesday that Michael Valentine was shot five times and died from multiple gunshot injuries. Walker told police he wasn’t at the club that night and denied knowing Valentine.

Dimione Walker denied to police that he was the man in surveillance video of the fatal shooting of Michael Valentine in April inside the Taboo club in Cedar Rapids. He also denied knowing Valentine or shooting him in self-defense.

A prosecutor, during her opening statement Monday, said Dimione Walker was watching and staring at Michael Valentine as soon as he arrived at the Taboo night club April 10. Walker then seemed to walk away, but instead, spun around and started firing at Valentine.
