Aaron McAlister led off the top of the fourth with a triple and scored on Josh Ramirez's single for Coon Rapids-Bayard's lone run.

No. 1 Mason City Newman 8, Pekin 7

Pekin made the top-ranked, defending champion Knights sweat, as Kennan Winn cleared the bases in the top of the seventh with a two-out RBI double to slice the lead to one.

Josh Fitzgerald then struck out Tugg Hill and Newman escaped with a one-run win.

The Knights jumped to a 7-0 lead, powered by a six-run third inning. The Panthers scored three in the fourth and got back within four, 8-4, in the fifth before nearly coming all the way back in the final frame.
