The best dessert for a taco dinner? More tacos.

Here’s how you can make your own Choco Taco — a chocolaty, super sugary “taco” shell filled with ice cream. Real Choco Tacos are the thing of obsession, according to a story all about how they came to exist by Eater.com, and your parents or grandparents might remember them from hot, summer days.

Homemade Choco Tacos are easy to make — after you finish cooking the shells. For that part, grab an adult to help out. We adapted this recipe from Gemma’s Bigger Bolder Baking blog and makes eight dessert tacos.

Homemade Choco Taco

What you’ll need, for shells:

• 2 egg whites

• 1/2 cup of sugar

• 3 tablespoons of whole milk

• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

• A pinch of salt

• 2/3 cup flour

• 2 tablespoons of melted butter

What you’ll need, for the filling:

• Melted milk chocolate

• Your favorite ice cream

• Sprinkles

• Chocolate sauce

• Nuts or any other topping you want!

1. In a large bowl, mix together your egg whites (try cracking the egg in your hand and letting the white slip through your fingers), sugar, milk, vanilla and salt with a whisk. Then mix in the melted butter and flour. You’ll have a white, smooth batter.

2. Drop a tablespoon of the batter into a medium-warm skillet. This is the hardest part. Very quickly spread the batter out so it’s extra thin. Let it cook until it sets, then flip it. You should end up with flat little pancakes.

3. Grab a heavy book and something with a long handle, like a wooden spoon, and stick the spoon end under the book. Quickly move your warm, flat shells onto the handle, so it hangs over the sides. Let it cool this way and it will become a taco shape!

4. Now the fun part. Dip the edges of your taco into your melted chocolate, then scoop ice cream inside and drizzle it with chocolate sauce, nuts, sprinkles and anything else you want. Prepare for a mess, then take a big bite.
