Cedar Rapids Kennedy began this week with a 20-1 record, propelling it to the top of the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 4A rankings released Monday. Kennedy has made a steady climb after starting at fifth in the preseason poll.

CPU opened the season 9-0 and cracked the third installment of the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A rankings released Monday. The Stormin’ Pointers debut at No. 10 after receiving votes last week.

Dyersville Beckman and senior Luke Harwick finished the first round of the Class 2A boys’ state golf tournament with the lead. When storms wiped out Tuesday’s second round, Beckman swept the team and individual titles at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.

The state golf tournaments for all three classes will be held May 20-21 in Ames. The Class 3A state tournament will be at Veenker Memorial Golf Course, 2A will be at Coldwater Links and 1A will be at Ames Golf and Country Club.

Western Dubuque has won the last two Class 3A state titles. The Bobcats start the 2024 season atop the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason rankings.

Lansing Kee won the Upper Iowa Conference in boys’ basketball this season for the first time. The Hawks have three players on the league’s all-conference team, including unanimous first-teamers Jordan Cota and Dalton Mudderman.
