The Dyersville Beckman boys basketball team has had more than its first share of injuries and illness this season. The illness belonged to head coach Michael Molony this time, though he toughed out the flu and led his Blazers past Alburnett in a Class 2A district semifinal, 59-33.

District semifinals are being played around the state Thursday night. Each game tips off at 7 p.m.

Cedar Rapids Prairie made plays down the stretch and knocked off Cedar Rapids Xavier, 74-69, in a fine late regular-season boys basketball game at Xavier.

MV won the Tri-Rivers Conference West Division, its first boys basketball conference title since 2010. Wildcats beat Central City, 61-39, Monday in Class 1A district quarterfinal.

Top seeds include Solon in Class 3A and Cedar Rapids Prairie in 4A.

The Warriors went 18-3 in the regular season, finishing second to Crestwood in the large school division of the Upper Iowa Conference. South Winn and almost everyone else begins Class 1A postseason play Monday.

And don’t forget 10-year-old Taylor Messerli. The daughter of head coach Pete Messerli sat on the end of the bench as a good-luck charm in a 67-50 win over Decorah.
