The 20th edition of Rivalry Saturday is set for Nov. 30, and 10 of the 16 teams played in the 2024 Iowa high school girls’ basketball state tournament.

Iowa City High’s Polyak capped off a brilliant prep career by defending his title in the 200-yard individual medley, winning in 1:46.35, five seconds ahead of runner-up Dylan Nelson of West Des Moines Valley. He backed that up by taking the 100 breaststroke title in 53.42 seconds. In most years, that performance would have likely been worthy of the swimmer of the meet honor, but that went to his I-Fly club teammate Owen Chiles of Pleasant Valley, who set state records in winning the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Girls’ basketball: Examining the regional brackets in 5A and 4A.

The seven-game MVC-CIML Shootout boys’ basketball event went down Saturday at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids. In one of the marquee games of the inaugural event, defending Class 4A defending champion West Des Moines Valley used a fourth-quarter spurt to down Linn-Mar in a matchup of the second and fourth-ranked teams. Top-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy also beat No. 7 Waukee.

The Iowa Flyers club attracts top Cedar Rapids and Iowa City swimmers and works in harmony with high school programs, helping them reach new national and regional heights.

The MVC-CIML Crossover Shootout event is January 6 at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids. It features seven games, most of them pitting a school from the Central Iowa Metro League against one from either the Mississippi Valley Conference or Mississippi Athletic Conference
