The state has failed to find an Iowa nonprofit to oversee and administer a network of crisis pregnancy centers and maintain a record of the services provided to Iowans.

The Iowa Board of Medicine is set to meet Friday to consider proposed rules that include specific guidance on how medical providers are to implement the exceptions for rape, incest, fatal fetal abnormalities and medical emergencies contained in a new law that would prohibit the vast majority of abortions in the state.

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors is likely to provide funding for emergency contraception for victims of sexual assault and rape as a state reimbursement program remains in limbo.

Reynolds and Bird say the Iowa Supreme Court should first determine which legal standard applies to abortion restrictions, then determine the new law, which is blocked by a temporary injunction, is constitutional.
