Dec. 29, 2015 12:42 pm
CHICAGO - A University of Iowa student was killed in a bus crash in Chicago on Monday.
The Illinois State Police said Nicole Underwood, 21, of Des Moines, was killed when a Burlington Trailways bus traveling northbound on Interstate 55 lost control and hit a construction arrow board sign. The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. Monday.
Authorities said they do not yet know why the bus driver, a 53-year-old man from Omaha, lost control of the bus.
UI spokeswoman Jeneane Beck confirmed Tuesday Underwood was a student at the university, but did not have any additional information.
Four other people were injured in the crash and were sent to the hospital. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
The crash remains under investigation.
