Two hurt in car-school bus crash in Linn County

SPRINGVILLE - Police say a driver lost control of a vehicle Monday afternoon and collided with the back of a school bus on Dubuque Road - which is Highway 151 - just east of Stone Road near Springville.

According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, the Springville Community School District bus was stopped when the incident occurred around 3:41 p.m.

The female driver was alone in the car and was taken by ambulance to Unity Point-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Six student passengers were in the bus along with the driver at the time of the crash, police said. One student was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries, police said. The bus had stopped to let that student off, police added.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, police said. The names of the drivers have not yet been released. The crash remains under investigation.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Marion Fire and Police departments, Area Ambulance Service, LifeGuard Air Ambulance and the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The incident caused deputies to close traffic on Highway 151 northbound at Highway 13. The roadway was reopened at around 6:30 p.m.
