CEDAR RAPIDS - Two Cedar Rapids men face weapons trafficking charges in unrelated cases.
The Linn County Attorney's Office has filed trafficking in stolen weapons charges against 67-year-old Johnny S. Brewer and 19-year-old Jordan L. Holmes. Holmes has also been charged with carrying weapons. Both men were arrested on Monday.
According to the criminal complaints, Iowa Department of Corrections officers were conducting a probation check on Brewer at his residence on 12th Street NW. While checking the residence, officers recovered three firearms that had been reported stolen from a Linn County residence on Nov. 30.
In a separate investigation, a man reported that his handgun had been stolen from him and named Holmes as a possible suspect. The gun was recovered when a vehicle Holmes was ridding in was stopped in the 1600 block of Arizona Avenue SE. Public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said Holmes took off running, but was apprehended by Cedar Rapids police officers. He was also wanted on a warrant for interference with official acts, Buelow said.
Trafficking in stolen weapons is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Carrying weapons is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison.
Both men are in custody at the Linn County Jail.
