CEDAR RAPIDS - Two Cedar Rapids men are accused of fleeing from a burglary with a couple of children in the getaway vehicle.
According to the Linn County Attorney's Office, on Tuesday, Kevin M. Naylor Jr., 25, and Davontay D. Beals, 24, entered an apartment in the 5500 block of Sixth Street SW. Naylor was armed with a gun, authorities said.
The two men are accused of taking property from the apartment and then fleeing the area in a vehicle driven by Naylor. Cedar Rapids police said they stopped the men a short distance from where the burglary occurred and discovered the men had stolen property and marijuana with them. Two children - ages 3 and 1 - were in the back seat of the vehicle, police said.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said the children were Naylor's and police believe he left them in the vehicle to commit the burglary with Beals.
Naylor was carrying a loaded gun at the time of his arrest, police said.
Both men were arrested and have been charged with first-degree burglary and possession of marijuana. Naylor also has been charged with going armed with intent and carrying weapons.
